I was born in Austin, Texas and raised in the rural community of Dripping Springs, Texas. After attending college at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas I worked for a surveying and civil engineering company in Austin. In 1987 I married Johnny Cox, a rancher and former race horse jockey. Johnny rode Mr. Kid Charge to his All American win in 1971 here at Ruidoso Downs.
In 1991 I began helping full time with our cattle operation while pursuing my interest in barrel racing. My husband was in partnership with his step-father Mike Levi, owner of Paleface Ranch in Spicewood, Texas and founder of the American Red Brangus breed of cattle. Up until the ranch dispersed its herd in 1996, the Paleface Ranch had the longest running single breed, single brand annual production sale in the United States. I was President of the American Red Brangus Association in 1997 after being on the Board of Directors and sitting on numerous committees.
We moved moved to Ruidoso in 2001 to enjoy the good climate, good friends and continue our ranching and horse interests. |
